………..
It's time for another Casual Dram, and this time we’re going to take a look at all things barley!
We’ll discuss the processes of malting and look at ways in which barley can affect the flavour of whisky, with a focus on barley type, the use of peat when kilning and different malting processes. We’ll taste whiskies that have been malted in different ways, with an early 90s floor-malted BenRiach, an 18-year-old Tamdhu malted in a saladin box and a floor-malted Springbank. There’ll be exotic barley from Bruichladdich and a sprinkling of peat here and there for good measure.
Here’s the lineup…
Benriach 22 Year Old 1993-2016 Claret Hogshead #7937 54.3% (unpeated)
Bruichladdich Micro Provenance 2011 NZ Exclusive 61.9% (unpeated)
Tamdhu 18 years old 46% (unpeated)
Springbank 12-year-old Cask Strength 55.9% (peated)
Mystery whisky
I hope you can join me for another tilt at five tip top drams!
